SCHOOL MEALS 2025-2026

Free School Meals for children in Reception to Year 6 for 2025/2026 - Mayors Universal Free School Meals

As you are aware, from September all pupils will be able to receive a school meal at no cost to their parent/carer. This is known as The Mayors Universal Free School Expansion and is a government initiative.

As this is very new, we have allocated a 3-week trial period for all children in Key Stage 2 who may wish to transfer from packed lunch to school meals. During the first 3 weeks of the autumn term, your child/children can try the school meals (free of charge) provided by Radish and teachers will take a daily ‘lunch register’ during this time. At the end of the 3 weeks, we ask that parents/carers and children make a definite decision as to whether they would like to continue with school meals free of charge or return to a packed lunch option.

Nurturing the importance of a healthy and balanced diet, they provide a nutritious meal every day to nourish from within.

How much does a school meal COST per day?

*Please note, at present school meals are FREE for all primary-aged children in London (see above)

As you know, we try to keep our school meal prices as low as possible, however we do need to make small increases at times. From September 2025 the cost of a meal will be £2.51 per day. You will receive a communication each time we have to increase the meal price.

How do I PAY for school meals?

*Please note, at present school meals are FREE for all primary-aged children in London (see above)

Payment will be made through the Arbor Parent portal; this is the system that holds your child’s information so it is really important you have access to this.

To gain access, if you don’t currently have access, simply provide the school office with your email address and the team will set you up on the Abor Parent Portal.

You will receive an email inviting you to log in (using your email address as your username and set yourself a password)

Access to the portal must be made through a PC or laptop (please use Google Chrome browser and not a tablet or smart phone).

Once you have logged in and set your password you can follow the attached instructions.

If you do not have access to a pc please ask the school office for help, all dinners must be paid in advance, where possible half termly.

When can I CHANGE from packed lunch to school meals?

At present, children are asked daily if they would like a packed lunch or a hot meal. If your child chooses to be packed lunch, they can change and/or opt for a school meal the next school day.

WHERE are the school meals cooked?

All meals are cooked on the school site. We have a chef and team of cooks at each school who work closely with Nourish to ensure the fresh meals are prepared every day.

How will my child know what the school meal is each day?

We encourage families to look at the menu and talk to the children at home. Each morning the class teacher will share the meals of the day with the class as they take the morning register.

What is a THEME DAY and how do I sign up for one?

At different times throughout the year, Nourish will work closely with the school to provide Theme Day meals. If you child is packed lunch, they can choose to have a school meal on these particular days.
