Our New Curriculum - ‘The world is my classroom’

Primary schools in the UK are encouraged to design and create a curriculum fit for their learning community. At Brindishe and Lee Manor Schools we relish this opportunity and last year teams of teachers from across our three schools set about the task with great enthusiasm.

Brindishe and Lee Manor Schools’ children are a very diverse group of learners. Our children live in a fantastically cosmopolitan capital, where communities learn to live and share with each other. We live in a changing economic climate so we know it’s really important that our children understand the value of money and to know how to make good decisions. We know they live in a technologically driven world and are increasingly aware of and want to respond to, climate change and diminishing natural resources. Their future work patterns and job opportunities may well be different so they may well need different skills and attributes. Our world is smaller and children increasingly realise that the connections between peoples and places are even more immediate and interdependent.

So that our children learn what they need to learn, at Brindishe Schools and Lee Manor we look beyond the classroom; we encourage children to take responsibility not only for themselves and their own learning but also for the progress and well–being of others. We want our children to be creative, successful, and reflective learners who make progress and achieve, who become confident individuals, know how to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives and who become responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society.

After much soul searching, research, design and discussion we created our bespoke model and its title says it all ‘The world is my classroom’. It’s a broad, flexible and modern curriculum, which enables our teachers to creatively plan personalised and highly stimulating learning for their classes. Want to find out more?
