On Friday, 17th June 2011 our school hall transformed into an enormous, exciting and fun-filled festival. Undeterred by the wet weather, our dedicated team of parents and carers began setting out tables of freshly-baked cakes, children’s toys, books and clothes. Excitement inside the school grew as children caught glimpses of chocolate fountains and popcorn machines and a bouncy castle… and finally 3.30 arrived and our summer fair began!

The hall was filled with stalls for arts and crafts, lucky dips, face painting, sponge throwing and hook-a-duck. The bouncy castle was a huge hit with queues of children waiting their turn patiently. Out in the playground, the local Fire Brigade and police officers arrived with the fire engine and police car. Children were able to see how everything worked and even climb in and sit beside the firefighters. There was huge excitement when the team showed us how to put out a fire. The water sprayed out of the hose high in the air and lots of people got very wet!

Back inside, the smell of hot food wafted through the hall and soon another hungry queue formed to taste the amazing home-cooked jerk chicken, vegetable and chicken curries, rice, popadoms and salads. A warm buzz of conversation, laughter and fun flowed and everyone looked so happy and well entertained until well after five o’clock.

Towards the end of the fair, the winners of the raffle were called by our headteacher Sarah Gorbutt and the huge hamper prizes were all sent to good homes!

Our thanks again go to parents Katie, Karen and Rachel, who did so well to co-ordinate every aspect of the fair, working tirelessly over the last few weeks to produce a fantastic, well-organised and fun-filled event. Thanks also to the many parents, carers, staff and friends of Brindishe Green who helped at the stalls, who made food, who donated prizes, helped set up, clear up and gave up their time to make the fair such a great success.

Not only did we raise lots of smiles, make new friendships, forge new links and build our parents association we also raised lots of money for the school.

We raised £800 – a fantastic amount, which will be added to our funds to re-vamp our playground, benefiting all of the children at Brindishe Green. Thanks everyone - great job and well done! It just shows how much we achieve when we work together.

Now we are looking for a new name for our parents’ association at Brindishe Green… what do you suggest? Let us have your ideas… by email to headteacher@brindishegreen.lewisham.sch.uk
